So there may be a job opening on the Rangers for Sean Avery after all.
Left wing Wojtek Wolski suffered a strained groin in the first period of last night’s 2-1 win over Anaheim. Wolski, who was on a line with Derek Stepan and Marian Gaborik, drove towards the end boards and became entangled with a Duck. Wolski ended the shift by skating back to the Rangers’ bench hunched over. He skated around the ice during a stoppage in play and took his next shift, but left the ice shortly thereafter.
“Groin,” Tortorella said. “It just acted up the way he hit in the corner. I think he got accordioned and his groin acted up. We’ll get more information tomorrow. Wolski had injured the groin during training camp.

Is Anton Stralman a Ranger? Depends who you ask.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie tweeted before the game that the Rangers and the defenseman had agreed to a one-year deal worth $900,000. However, there was no official word from the organization. When asked in his post-game press conference whether Stralman had agreed to terms, Tortorella said, “I know we’re talking to him. I’m not sure what’s happened there. I know there’s been some conversation with [GM] Glen [Sather]. I don’t know if anything’s been finalized.”
Stralman had attended training camp with the Devils. He has played with Toronto and Columbus in his career.
No news on Rupp or Staal
Tortorella did not have anything to report on the conditions of defenseman Marc Staal and center/right wing Mike Rupp. Staal has missed the entire season with post-concussion symptoms, while Rupp has missed the last four games with an injured knee. As he said following Wednesday’s practice, Tortorella thought the team would have an update on Rupp’s condition “in another day or so.”

Pekka Rinne agreed to a seven-year, $49 million contract with Nashville. The goaltender, a Vezina finalist in 2010-11, has a 5-4-2 record this season with a .922 save percentage, 2.50 goals against and two shutouts. For his career he is 100-58-20 in 188 games. … Carolina announced the addition of 10 minority owners. Nine of the 10 new partners are North Carolina-based. Owner Peter Karmanos Jr. still retains majority control of the franchise. … Buffalo right wing Patrick Kaleta was suspended by the NHL for four games for “an illegal hit to the face” of Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek in the first period of the Flyers’ 3-2 win Wednesday night. Kaleta will lose $19,621.64. The first game he could return is Nov. 12 in Boston.
